Open Exhibition at Leigh Court

This is the second open exhibition to be held by Fill That Space and we are grateful to Leigh Court for agreeing to host it. The aim of this exhibition is to showcase the eclectic artwork being created by Bristol artists. It is open to all artists living in an area with a Bristol postcode and who create 2D artwork. All the work included in the exhibition will also be for sale.

Submissions will be accepted from 8th January and up until 1st February. This will be followed by the announcement of the shortlist on 5th February with the final successful artists and their work being announced on 12th February.

How To Apply

All submissions must be received via email to fillthatspace@outlook.com  You will receive a confirmation email as receipt of your application and payment. Your application must include the completed pro forma (attached below), images of your work and evidence of payment.

All submissions must include at least one image. Images included with the submission will also be used for publicity purposes which will include, but are not limited to, our social media platforms and website.

 

All images must be a JPEG file to a maximum size of 3MB. All images must have the filename as the artwork title without numbers or symbols and be suitable for use on social media.

 

Please ensure that your submission is complete and fully compliant as instructed in the Terms and Conditions. Submissions that are not complete will not be considered and refunds will not be possible. 

 

What should I expect once I have submitted my application? As long as your submission is fully compliant and submitted by no later than 1st February the following will apply:

  • Stage 1: Shortlist – All submissions will be reviewed and announced via our social media platforms after 1700 on 5th February. The shortlist will also be included on our website. Results will not be communicated via any other method.
  • Stage 2: Final Selection – The shortlist will then be reviewed and final selection will be announced via our social media platforms after 1700 on 12th February. The final list will also be included on our website. Results will also be communicated via email to the successful artists together with an invitation to attend a final view.

FAQs

What artwork can I submit?
This exhibition is for any 2D artwork.

How many artworks can I submit?
You can submit a maximum of 6. 

What is the submission fee?
A submission with one artwork is £5. A submission with 3 artworks is £10. A submission for the maximum of 6 artworks is £20.

What is the maximum size of work I can submit?
The width must be a maximum of 60cm max and minimum of 25cm. The height must be a maximum of 100cm max and minimum of 25cm.

Do I need to put the size of the artwork or the framed artwork?
You need to provide the overall size of your artwork, this would include the framed size if your artwork is framed.

How is the artwork hung?
The artwork will be hung using chains that are fixed to a picture rail. All artists must ensure that their artwork is fitted with eyelets for hanging.

How should I price my artwork?
Your price should take into account the basic price of the artwork, our commission* and VAT, if this is applicable.
*Fill That Space will take 25% commission on all artwork sold unless you are a Fill That Space artist which will be at the agreed contracted commission.

I’m not sure what images I need to include?
You should provide an image that best represents the work you are submitting. This should be a JPEG file that is no larger than 3MB.

How can I pay?
You can pay by bank transfer. 

Do I need to provide labels?
No. We will ensure that your artwork is labelled appropriately.

Can I make changes once I have paid and submitted my application?
No. You should ensure that you have submitted a complete and fully compliant application.

How long does the exhibition last?
This exhibition is for three months. The next exhibition will be open for submissions in May 2019.

Submission Information and Terms and Conditions

Please ensure that you have read all terms and conditions and fully understand what is expected as by submitting an application you are also accepting and agreeing to all terms and conditions of this exhibition.

  • It is accepted by the artist that the selectors decision is final and no further communication will be entered into.
  • It is accepted by the artist that Fill That Space has the right to make changes to the exhibition and terms and conditions as regarded appropriate and necessary within the circumstances of the exhibition. 
  • It is accepted and agreed by the artist that the data and images included in the submission will be used by Fill That Space for publicity purposes.
  • The artist confirms that all work included in the submission is wholly created by the submitting artist and all information provided is true and accurate.
  1. Entry Requirements
  • An artist may submit a maximum of 6 artworks.
  • Artists should try to submit artwork created in the last 12 months.
  • Any artwork included in the exhibition is for sale.
  • A single artwork should be less than £1,000.
  • All submissions will be reviewed on application and be considered through the selection process. 
  1. Entry fees
  • The entry fee is per artwork.
  • A submission with one artwork will cost £5.
  • A submission with three artworks will cost £10.
  • A submission with six artworks will cost £20.
  1. Requirements for applications 

a) Minimum entry requirement

  • All submissions must be emailed to fillthatspace@outlook.com with the subject title ‘Leigh Court exhibition Feb 2019’
  • At least one image is required per artwork.
  • The image must be the best representation of the artwork.  
  • If the artwork is framed this needs to be included in the image.
  • Images should be a JPEG file and should not exceed a maximum size of 3MB. 

b) Artwork requirement 

  • Artwork must be two dimensional.
  • The artwork must be between 60cm and 25cm wide and between 100cm and 25cm high
  • All work must be original or limited edition. Reproductions will not be accepted.

 c) Artworks that will not be accepted

  • Any artwork that subsequently cannot be easily hung. Refer to Frames, fixings and labelling.
  • Artwork that is not deemed ready to hang: 
    • The artwork must have the proper hanging hardware installed. 
    • If framed, this must be done properly.
    • If unframed, the edges must be neat and properly finished.
  • Any work that is deemed to contain offensive material.

d) Frames, fixings and labelling

  • The artwork will be hung using chains that are fixed to a picture rail. All artists must ensure that their artwork is fitted with eyelets for hanging.
  • No other fixtures should be on the artwork.
  • Unframed work is acceptable if this is for artistic reasons and the edges finished professionally.
  • Fill That Space will be responsible for labelling.

e) Packaging

  • All artworks should be properly wrapped when delivered to Leigh Court.
  • All artwork will be inspected on arrival to confirm the condition of the artwork prior to hanging.

f) Announcing results

  • The successful artists who are shortlisted will be announced via the Fill That Space social media channels and will also be included on the website. 
  • The successful artists who are finally selected will be announced via the Fill That Space social media channels, will also be included on the website and receive a confirmation email. 
  • The responsibility remains with the artist to check their progress.
  • Fill That Space will only send a confirmation email to the successful artists who have been selected for the final exhibition. 

g) Selling Work

  • All prices must be round to the nearest pound.
  • The selling price must take into consideration the artists price, Fill That Space commission* and VAT, if applicable. (*Fill That Space will take 25% commission on all artwork sold unless you are a Fill That Space artist which will be at the agreed contracted commission)
  • The selling price used in your submission information will be the price included in the exhibition and cannot be changed.
  • Payments for works sold will be communicated to the relevant artist once payment has been received by Fill That Space and this will be transferred to the artist within 30 days of the exhibition ending.

h) Collecting artwork

  • It is the artists responsibility to collect their artwork 19th February at the agreed time. 
  • The artwork must be collected in person and therefore all artists must bring photo ID for collection. 
  • Any artwork that is not collected on the agreed date and within the agreed time will incur a charge of £5 per week. If artwork is not collected within a month of the exhibition closing then Fill That Space has the right to dispose of the artwork as appropriate which may be selling where the proceeds will be retained by Fill That Space. 

i) Insurance and Damage

  • All artists must ensure that their artwork has the appropriate insurance that at a minimum covers loss and damage for the duration of the exhibition.
  • Due care will be taken throughout the duration of exhibition however neither Fill That Space or Leigh Court will be responsible for any loss or damage to artworks included in the exhibition. 
  • Artists must be aware that there may be a need to temporarily remove the artwork from the exhibition if required by an event booking, for example a wedding.

j) Copyright

  • Although copyright remains with the artist, by agreeing to the terms and conditions of this exhibition you are agreeing to Fill That Space using your work and images for promotional purposes which will include but is not limited to social media and our website.

k) Withdrawal of submission

  • The artist is entitled to withdraw their application at any point and a refund will be granted as long as this is prior to the submission deadline of 1st February. 
  • Any submission withdrawals post the 1st February will not be entitled to a submission refund.
